Solid Waste Management in Cairo: Networks and Social Mobilization

In line with current scholarly debates on the transformation of infrastructure networks, this article examines the case of the solid waste management service in Cairo in order to draw broader conclusions on networks and their management. The analysis delineates the specificities of Cairo’s network and the particular set of social mobilizations it engenders. In so doing, it offers a reading of infrastructure networks that opens up to the design of novel solutions to the issue of universal access to waste management services in countries of the South.
