Urban Planning and Transit Logics: The Example of Pays Voironnais, an Intermunicipal Authority

Based on a case study, this article discusses the difficulty to reconcile the logics of town planning and transportation systems, as an example of the widespread sectorization of urban policies. The study of the of the Pays Voironnais, a suburban inter-municipal authority, sheds light both on the process of creation of a new institutional territory and on the urban development policies. It illustrate the contradictions within suburban spaces that result from the disjoined management of town planning and mobility, at the geographical level of inter-municipal sector as well as at the broader level of the urban area.
