Everyday railway passenger flow regulation: the infrastructure under constant strain

Every day, the normal operations of railway stations is hampered by minor disruptions. How do operators restore and maintain the operation of infrastructures? This article studies the maintenance work of railway station operators based on the practices for regulating passenger flows conducted by operators to cope with ordinay disruptions. Building on an ethnographic survey alongside railway station operators, it reveals how passengers flow management rules are recast to legitimize the role of operators and to link infrastructure regulation to railway production.
