The Road Network as a Structural Determinant of the Amount of Exhaust Emissions Produced by Automobility
English
The road network is usually considered as a mere support in territorial studies. This article aims to put it at the centre of urban air pollution analyses, as a full variable in exhaust emission study. It presents how the road network constrains the materialisation of an origin-destination flow network in a travel network. The size of the latter is determined by the road network characteristics (shape and speeds). The distances travelled, and thus exhaust emissions, are closely linked to these.
