As an emerging country highly dependent for its energy supply and facing a sharp rise in electricity consumption, Turkey has in recent years restructured its energy policy at national level. This has consisted mainly in a privatization of electricity generation and distribution and in a strengthening and diversification of power generation capacity. In this context, the issue of energy transition appears secondary and the capacity of local authorities to formulate their own energy policies remains very restrained.
